DAZN secures AFCON and CAF Champions League rights in DACH region

DAZN is expanding its football rights portfolio in the DACH region, with the streaming platform reportedly securing rights to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026–27 CAF Champions League in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

According to German media reports, the agreement with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will see DAZN replace Sportdigital as the regional broadcaster of AFCON. Sportdigital has held the rights to the 24-team tournament since 2021.

DAZN previously held the rights to the 2019 edition of AFCON, while Sportdigital’s subsequent agreement also allowed DAZN subscribers to access tournament content through a carriage arrangement.

The 2027 edition is again expected to feature prominent Bundesliga players, including Bayern Munich’s Ismaël Saibari, Stuttgart’s Bilal El Khannouss, and Bayer Leverkusen duo Ibrahim Maza and Edmond Tapsoba.

The tournament will also provide DAZN with a major live sports property during the European club football off-season. The 2027 Asian Cup will take place in January and February, while the Concacaf Gold Cup’s North American time zone can limit its appeal to European prime-time audiences.

The 2027 AFCON is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17 across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
