Microsoft has announced a groundbreaking partnership with The Overlap, the multi-award-winning sports media platform co-founded by Gary Neville. This collaboration introduces the Premier League Companion, an AI-driven tool powered by Microsoft Copilot, into the network’s flagship digital content.

Running from February 12 through the end of the 2025-26 football season, the partnership is designed to transform punditry by replacing subjective debate with real-time, data-driven insights.

Key Integration Features

The Premier League Companion will be a central fixture in the conversations between hosts Gary Neville, Roy Keane, and Jill Scott.

  • Branded Segments: The technology will be embedded into the network’s most popular formats: Stick To Football, The Breakdown, and The Fan Debate.
  • Real-Time Analysis: Pundits will use Copilot to settle debates instantly by querying 30 seasons of official match data, 300,000 articles, and 9,000 archive videos.
  • Fan Engagement: Beyond the podcasts, a 30-second TV commercial will air during select Premier League matches, supported by social media “cutdowns” across YouTube and audio platforms.

A Deeper Strategic Tie-Up

The partnership, created in collaboration with Sky Media, highlights Microsoft’s role as the Official Cloud and AI Partner of the Premier League. This broader five-year deal aims to modernize the league’s digital infrastructure using Azure AI Foundry and Microsoft Copilot.

“By bringing our Copilot-powered Premier League Companion into The Overlap, we’re helping pundits and fans go deeper, faster,” said Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK & Ireland. “When data meets debate, every fan becomes a pundit.”

Gary Neville, an early adopter of the tool, added: “I’ve been personally using Microsoft Copilot for some time… I can’t wait to see how it’s used to inform the conversations we have on Stick to Football.”
