UD Las Palmas Invest €60M in Estadio Gran Canaria Renovation for 2030 World Cup

UD Las Palmas has taken a decisive step into a new financial and operational era, committing €60 million towards the redevelopment of the Estadio Gran Canaria in partnership with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

The agreement forms part of a wider renovation project tied to preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with the total cost of the stadium upgrade now rising to €174 million. The increase reflects complications related to ground instability, which significantly expanded the scope of the original €101 million estimate.

Beyond financial contribution, the club will also play a role in the future management of the stadium alongside the local governing body, marking a shift towards a co-ownership and co-management model.

The move represents a significant milestone in the club’s modern history. In a statement, Las Palmas described the agreement as elevating the club to “a dimension never seen before,” while also positioning them to play a central role in managing the Siete Palmas sports complex after the World Cup.

Cabildo president Antonio Morales called the agreement a “historic commitment,” emphasizing the importance of shared investment and long-term collaboration in developing the venue.

Club president Miguel Ángel Ramírez went further, describing the announcement as the most important moment of his tenure, highlighting the unprecedented scale of the investment for the club.

As European football continues to lean on stadium redevelopment as both a commercial and competitive advantage, Las Palmas’ commitment signals a broader trend: clubs increasingly stepping into infrastructure ownership and long-term asset control.
