Morocco is doubling down on its status as Africa’s most visited destination by launching a massive $4 billion investment plan to overhaul its hospitality infrastructure. The strategy, aimed at the 2030 FIFA World Cup (co-hosted with Spain and Portugal), focuses on a rapid expansion of the kingdom’s lodging capacity.
According to Imad Barrakad, head of the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development (SMIT), the plan involves 700 distinct projects designed to add 25,000 new hotel rooms. This represents one of the most ambitious and fastest expansions in the country’s history. The initiative follows a record-breaking 2025, where Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million visitors, generating approximately $14.8 billion in revenue.
The funding structure highlights strong internal confidence, with 75% of projects financed by Moroccan investors, while international brands are expected to manage at least 15% of the new facilities.
