Google has expanded its partnership with the Indian Premier League (IPL), introducing its AI-powered Search Mode as a central feature of the 2026 season.
The agreement, struck with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), elevates Google Search AI Mode to premier partner status for the tournament, which runs from March 28 to May 31.
AI Meets Live Cricket
Under the deal, IPL broadcasts will now feature real-time AI-driven insights and statistics, enhancing how fans engage with matches. These features include:
- Live match analysis integrated into broadcast coverage
- AI-generated match summaries
- Historical match comparisons powered by AI
- Interactive answers via Google Search for IPL-related queries
Fans will be able to access these insights both during live broadcasts and directly through Google Search, creating a multi-platform viewing experience.
Enhancing Fan Engagement
The initiative reflects a broader shift toward AI-driven sports consumption, where data, storytelling, and interactivity come together.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia highlighted that this integration will transform the fan experience by delivering more personalized and conversational insights.
Expanding Google’s Sports Strategy
This move builds on Google’s growing presence in global sports. Earlier this year, the company partnered with the International Cricket Council (ICC), where its Gemini AI platform served as an official fan companion during the Men’s T20 World Cup.
Google has also expanded into motorsport through a partnership with Formula E.
The Bigger Picture
With India leading the adoption of generative AI—especially among younger audiences—the IPL partnership positions Google at the intersection of technology, entertainment, and sport.
As one of the world’s most-watched cricket leagues, the IPL provides a global platform for Google to showcase how AI can redefine the live sports experience.
