French football continues to maintain a unique financial hierarchy, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) firmly established as the economic engine of Ligue 1. According to L’Équipe’s annual salary report, the gap between the Parisian club and the rest of the league remains a chasm.
The Million-Euro Club
At the top of the rankings sits Ousmane Dembélé, holding the most lucrative contract in the league. Following him are teammates Marquinhos (€1.12M per month), Lucas Hernández, and Achraf Hakimi—all of whom surpass the one-million-euro monthly mark.
PSG’s dominance is so absolute that their players occupy half of the spots in the league’s top 30 highest-paid earners.
The Rest of the League
The financial disparity is stark when compared to other historic clubs:
- Olympique de Marseille (OM): Their top earner, Pierre Højbjerg, ranks 15th overall with a monthly salary of €500,000.
- Olympique Lyonnais (OL): Corentin Tolisso earns €450,000 (19th place).
- Stade Rennais: Brice Samba earns €400,000 (21st place).
Most players outside of Paris earn less than half of what PSG’s top stars take home. While Ligue 1 maintains a competitive average salary compared to other European leagues, this figure is heavily inflated by PSG’s massive spending power.
