Amazon is reportedly preparing to enter the Turkish football broadcast market, with Prime Video owner Amazon working with Saran Group on a potential bid for the domestic Super Lig rights.
According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, the two companies have started preparations for a joint bid ahead of the Turkish Football Federation’s (TFF) next domestic broadcast rights tender. The potential offer could be worth around $400 million, although no formal bid has been announced and the terms have not been disclosed.
The TFF is scheduled to hold the tender for the Super Lig and 1. Lig rights for the next cycle on January 13, 2027.
TFF prepares new rights framework
A broadcasting tender commission established by the TFF will determine the commercial, technical and operational framework for the next rights cycle. The commission includes TFF representatives as well as representatives from the Union of Clubs and the 1. Lig.
The TFF plans to work with a specialist company experienced in European sports media rights and broadcasting to prepare the tender specifications. The framework is expected to cover not only the rights fee but also production standards, technical infrastructure, image quality, camera technology and broadcast security.
The process comes amid calls from Turkish clubs for improvements to the quality of domestic football broadcasts. The new specifications are expected to include detailed requirements around 4K broadcasting, image resolution and camera standards.
Amazon expands global sports strategy
A potential Super Lig bid would add Turkey to Amazon’s expanding international sports broadcasting portfolio.
Prime Video has developed a significant live sports offering across football and other major sports, including UEFA Champions League matches in markets such as the UK, Germany and Italy, as well as Premier League rights in selected European markets.
In Brazil, Amazon holds rights to 38 matches of the domestic league each season and a 54-match Copa do Brasil package, with the latter recently extended through 2030. The company also holds domestic rights to Chivas matches in Mexico.
Beyond football, Amazon’s sports portfolio includes properties such as the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, NASCAR, tennis and cricket across different markets.
Amazon has also increasingly differentiated its sports offering through digital features, including live statistics, player tracking, sprint speeds, pass distances, ball speed, expected goals and other data-driven graphics.
Turkcell also enters the picture
Amazon and Saran Group are not the only parties linked to the upcoming tender.
The TFF has reportedly held an initial meeting with Turkcell as it assesses potential participants in the next broadcast rights process. TFF president İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu is reported to have met with Turkcell’s CEO alongside a representative from the Union of Clubs, with the next Super Lig tender among the topics discussed.
The discussions come as Turkish football prepares for a potentially significant reshaping of its domestic media rights market, with global streaming platforms and local technology and media companies assessing different routes into the next rights cycle.
For Amazon, a successful bid would represent a further step in its international sports strategy and provide Prime Video with a major domestic football property in the Turkish market.
