Arena Sport to Replace Sport Klub in Bosnia as Regional Media Shift Accelerates

Sport Klub

The sports broadcasting landscape in the Balkans is undergoing a significant transformation, with Sport Klub set to exit Bosnia and Herzegovina on April 1, making way for an expanded offering from Arena Sport.

The transition follows a strategic acquisition by Telekom Srbija, which in February 2025 secured key Sport Klub rights, licences, and related assets from United Group. The deal spans multiple Western Balkan markets, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.

From April, viewers in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be migrated to Arena Sport’s platform, which promises a broader portfolio of live events, expanded match coverage, and new exclusive programming. The move effectively consolidates premium sports content under a single broadcaster in the market.

Industry observers see this as a decisive moment in a long-standing rivalry between Sport Klub and Arena Sport for regional sports rights. With the competitive dynamic now reduced, the market is entering a new phase defined by consolidation rather than fragmentation.

Executives at Telekom Srbija have indicated that the shift could have economic implications beyond content distribution. CEO Vladimir Lučić has suggested that fewer competing bidders in rights tenders may help stabilize or even reduce escalating sports rights costs—potentially leading to more competitive pricing for consumers over time.

The development underscores a broader trend across global sports media, where scale and rights aggregation are becoming critical to sustaining profitability and negotiating power in an increasingly competitive content ecosystem.
