English Premier League champions Arsenal found themselves in the spotlight today for something entirely unrelated to football. The club’s official X account published a post celebrating Polish tennis superstar Iga Swiatek’s first-round victory at Roland Garros. The unexpected post from a football club with no direct connection to the tennis world caused a major stir on social media.
What Happened?
The post featured a photo from Swiatek’s commanding win over Jones (6-1, 6-2) and included the caption “@iga_swiatek starting strong! #RolandGarros”. Arsenal fans were initially left puzzled, before social media platforms were flooded with reactions to the post. Humorous comments such as “Has Arsenal turned into a tennis club?” and “Is a Swiatek transfer on the way?” quickly went viral.
The post was taken down shortly after it was published.
