Folarin Balogun’s red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina has not only deprived the United States of its leading striker for the Round of 16 clash against Belgium, but it has also activated a nationwide Domino’s Pizza promotion.
Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Domino’s launched its “Emergency Pizzas for Red Card” campaign, promising free pizza to fans if any USMNT player received a red card during the tournament.
Balogun’s dismissal in the 64th minute against Bosnia-Herzegovina officially triggered the promotion. Up to 63,371 registered participants will be randomly selected to receive a free medium two-topping pizza, while all remaining eligible entrants will receive a 20 percent discount coupon on selected menu items.
“We’re definitely not rooting for one, but if the U.S. is handed a red card, there’s nothing like a free pizza to help make it a little better,” Domino’s said when announcing the campaign.
Balogun was shown a red card following a VAR review after a challenge on Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic. Referee Raphael Claus initially allowed play to continue without issuing a booking, but changed his decision after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor.
The decision sparked debate among supporters, many arguing that Balogun had been attempting to play the ball and had no malicious intent. Nevertheless, the suspension means the Monaco forward will miss the United States’ upcoming Round of 16 encounter against Belgium.
Only fans who registered for the promotion before the June 10 deadline are eligible. Winners will receive their free pizza vouchers or discount coupons directly via email in the coming days.
