FC Barcelona’s finance director Marcel Ramirez Papell has left the club after nearly a decade, adding to a series of senior departures from the Catalan side’s administrative structure.
Ramirez Papell announced his departure in October after joining Barcelona in November 2016 as a financial controller. He subsequently moved into increasingly senior roles within the club’s financial department.
He became head of management control and budgeting in March 2020 before taking on the role of management control manager in September 2021. In July 2024, he was appointed finance director, a position he held until his departure.
Before joining Barcelona, Ramirez Papell worked as an internal auditor at AGBAR, a Veolia subsidiary, and spent more than three years at Deloitte.
His exit comes just days after Manel del Rio resigned as Barcelona’s general director. Del Rio informed president Joan Laporta of his decision on September 29, with Sergio Serrano expected to assume part of his responsibilities.
The changes point to a broader reorganisation of Barcelona’s financial and administrative structure, with several senior figures having left the club in recent years.
The restructuring comes as Barcelona projects a significant increase in operating revenue for the 2026-27 season. The club expects operating income to reach €1.195 billion, representing an increase of €135 million compared with the 2025-26 financial year.
The latest departures therefore come at a significant point for Barcelona, as the club seeks to strengthen its financial structure while continuing to increase its commercial and operating revenues.
