Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt have officially started construction of their new 10,000-capacity Arctic Arena, a landmark project set to redefine football infrastructure in Northern Europe.
Scheduled for completion in 2027, the new stadium will meet full UEFA standards for hosting international matches and is being described as one of the most significant investments in the club’s history.
Club CEO Frode Thomassen called the project a historic turning point for both the club and the wider region.
“This is a defining moment for Bodø/Glimt, for our supporters and for the whole region,” Thomassen said.
“This arena will be the future home of Bodø/Glimt and a place that reflects the ambition, energy and unity that have driven this club’s remarkable journey.”
The launch of the project comes after Bodø/Glimt’s breakthrough UEFA Champions League campaign, where the Norwegian side reached the Round of 16 for the first time in club history. Memorable victories against Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan significantly boosted the club’s revenues and helped finance the development.
According to the club, the Arctic Arena is designed not only as a football stadium but also as a long-term regional investment expected to strengthen economic growth, visibility and community engagement across Bodø and Northern Norway.
The project also carries a major sustainability focus. Plans include circular economy operations through heat and waste recovery systems, alongside ambitions to achieve the highest possible environmental certification under the BREEAM standard.
In addition to football facilities, earlier plans for the venue included multi-sport infrastructure such as tennis, padel and handball courts, as well as an ice rink and athletics track.
Bodø/Glimt currently play at Aspmyra Stadion, which presently holds 8,270 spectators after a redevelopment completed in 2022. The previous configuration did not fully satisfy UEFA safety requirements for international fixtures.
The new Arctic Arena represents another sign of Bodø/Glimt’s transformation from a regional Norwegian club into one of Scandinavia’s fastest-rising football brands, supported by growing European visibility and ambitious infrastructure investment.
