Canal Plus has expanded its distribution partnership with Samsung Electronics, extending access to the DStv Stream platform across English-speaking and Portuguese-speaking markets in Africa served by the MultiChoice Group.
Under the agreement, DStv Stream will be available for the first time on Samsung Smart TVs in 18 African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Zimbabwe. The application will come pre-installed on compatible devices, making it easier for subscribers to access MultiChoice content through connected televisions.
The move follows Canal Plus’ acquisition of MultiChoice and broadens an existing collaboration between Canal Plus and Samsung that already covers 40 territories across Europe, Asia and French-speaking Africa.
For sports audiences, the partnership provides Samsung Smart TV users with direct access to Canal Plus’ premium rights portfolio through DStv Stream. The offering includes coverage of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, where 10 African nations are participating, as well as competitions such as the Premier League and major domestic and international rugby tournaments.
David Mignot, chief executive of Canal+ Africa and the MultiChoice Group, said strengthening access to content across connected devices remains a priority as viewing habits continue to evolve across the continent.
The 10 African teams competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup are Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast and DR Congo.
Earlier this month, Canal Plus also secured broadcasting rights to the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup and the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Sub-Saharan Africa through an agreement with World Rugby. The tournaments will be shown via SuperSport, DStv and the GOtv platform.
