Canal+ has strengthened its sports broadcasting portfolio by securing exclusive media rights to UEFA’s men’s club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa for the 2027-28 to 2030-31 cycle.
Under the agreement, Canal+ will exclusively broadcast the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, UEFA Youth League, and the UEFA Super Cup via its SuperSport platform across more than 40 countries in the region.
The deal covers English, French, and Portuguese-language markets, giving Canal+ complete exclusivity throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
Exclusive coverage across all major language markets
The agreement allows SuperSport to retain the English and Portuguese-language rights it held during the previous 2024-27 cycle while adding the French-language rights previously owned by New World TV.
According to Sportcal, Canal+ outbid numerous competitors—receiving competition from more than 20 bids in some territories—to secure exclusive regional coverage.
The deal also marks the first time that the Europa League and Conference League will be available with French-language commentary across these markets.
Canal+ expands global UEFA portfolio
Canal+ Chairman Maxime Saada described the agreement as another milestone in the company’s international sports strategy.
“We are very proud of this new partnership, which provides exclusive and comprehensive coverage of UEFA men’s club competitions in more than 40 Sub-Saharan African countries,” Saada said.
The agreement was negotiated by UC3, UEFA’s commercial joint venture with the European Club Association (ECA), together with Relevent Football Partners, UEFA’s global commercial agency for club competitions through 2033.
Earlier this year, Canal+ also secured UEFA club competition rights in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, and Austria, further expanding its European football portfolio.
Strong football offering in Africa
The broadcaster already holds media rights to several major football properties in Sub-Saharan Africa, including the Premier League, LaLiga, and Ligue 1.
The UEFA competitions feature many of Africa’s biggest football stars, including Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray), Ademola Lookman (Atlético Madrid), Amad Diallo (Manchester United), Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City), Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig), and Sehrou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), further strengthening Canal+’s premium football offering in one of the sport’s fastest-growing media markets.
