Euroleague Basketball has officially entered a new era with the appointment of Jesus Chus Bueno as its Chief Executive Officer. The former NBA Europe Vice President was unanimously elected by the Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) board, succeeding Paulius Motiejunas.

The appointment comes at a critical junction for European basketball. Bueno, a former professional player for FC Barcelona, brings a heavy-hitting resume to the role, including:
- 12 years at the NBA as VP of EMEA and Managing Director of NBA Spain.
- Executive roles at the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and the agency Legends.
- Recent leadership of DAZNs basketball vertical.
Navigating the NBA Expansion
Industry analysts view Buenos appointment as a strategic response to the NBAs plans to launch a rival European league as early as 2027. While his predecessor, Paulius Motiejunas, took a more combative stance against the NBA’s ambitions, Buenos deep ties to the North American league suggest a potential shift toward collaboration or diplomacy.
The Euroleague board has tasked Bueno with several key objectives:
