Thibaut Courtois, goalkeeper for Real Madrid CF, has expanded his investment portfolio by becoming co-owner of Spanish club CD Extremadura, a recently promoted team competing in Primera Federación.
The deal was completed through NXTPlay Capital, the investment company Courtois shares with businessman Gonzalo Vila. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
According to the club, existing owner Daniel Tafur will remain in charge of the sporting and institutional direction of the project, as CD Extremadura continues its rapid rise through Spanish football, achieving four consecutive promotions in recent seasons.
The Extremadura-based club is seen as a revival project following the collapse of the original Extremadura UD in 2022 due to financial difficulties.
This move adds to Courtois’ growing list of sports investments beyond his playing career. The Belgian international previously became a minority investor in Le Mans FC and is also involved in motorsport and sports business ventures.
His wider portfolio includes ownership stakes in electric boating competitions such as the E1 Series, participation in Formula 4 through TC Racing, and investment in sports marketing agency Group 1, reflecting a growing trend of elite athletes expanding into multi-sector sports ownership and business roles.
