From the goalposts to the restaurant business, Thibaut Courtois has taken a new step in his investment journey. The Real Madrid CF goalkeeper has invested in açaí company Oakberry through his investment platform Nxtplay, marking his first move into the hospitality sector.
“This is not just a hospitality investment; Oakberry sits at the intersection of wellness, lifestyle and global culture—the same space where sport, identity and community converge,” the platform stated. Nxtplay sees the deal as an opportunity to connect with the next generation of fans and consumers.
Expansion strategy focused on belgium
As part of the agreement, Nxtplay will take on an active operational role, leading Oakberry’s expansion in Belgium while potentially scaling the business into new markets. The focus is on supporting the brand’s continued growth and development across regions.
With ongoing expansion across Europe, the United States, the Middle East and Asia, alongside a growing consumer goods business, the investment reflects a strategy of entering high-potential brands before they reach full market valuation.
A fast-growing global brand
Oakberry currently operates more than 1,000 stores in over 45 countries and has recorded a compound annual growth rate of 59% since 2017. Nearly 60% of its customers visit weekly, a retention rate comparable to leading global consumer brands.
Expanding investment footprint
This move comes just a month after Courtois entered the electric powerboat racing competition E1 Series as co-owner of Sierra Racing Club, a team later joined by Kyle Kuzma.
Weeks earlier, Courtois also used Nxtplay to invest in tech platform Stamp, which focuses on enabling merchants to capture global demand through real-time tax-free solutions, localized growth strategies and payments for high-spending international travelers.
