DAZN will continue broadcasting the Belgian Pro League through at least the end of the 2026–27 season, despite earlier attempts to terminate its domestic rights deal prematurely.
The commitment was confirmed during a court hearing in Brussels, where DAZN’s legal representatives stated the platform will maintain coverage in Belgium until mid-2027. The development brings short-term stability after months of uncertainty surrounding the five-year agreement originally running through 2029–30.
The dispute stems from contractual obligations requiring DAZN to secure at least two additional distribution partners to broaden access to matches. Negotiations with major telecom operators — including Proximus, Telenet and Orange — failed to produce agreements, leaving matches available exclusively on DAZN’s platform and placing the deal in breach of its original terms.
Following DAZN’s attempt to void the contract, the Pro League initiated legal proceedings. In January, Belgium’s arbitration body ordered the broadcaster to continue coverage through the 2025–26 season and to pay outstanding rights fees. The ruling also required DAZN to reopen negotiations with distribution partners.
Although tensions persist, the latest development ensures continuity of broadcast coverage in the near term. Financially, the current agreement reflects a reduced valuation, with DAZN’s renewed deal signed in 2024 worth approximately €84.2 million per season — down from €103 million annually under the previous cycle.
The situation highlights the growing complexity of sports media rights in the streaming era, where distribution guarantees and platform reach are becoming as critical as headline rights fees.
