The DP World Tour has agreed a landmark partnership with Amazon, becoming the first professional sports organisation to integrate the tech giant’s low Earth orbit satellite network, Amazon Leo, into live tournament operations.
Starting in 2026, Amazon Leo will serve as the tour’s official satellite connectivity partner, in a move designed to solve one of golf’s persistent logistical challenges: reliable internet access at remote and temporary venues across a 25-country global schedule.
The deployment will see Leo antennas installed across tournament sites, creating a unified high-speed network spanning tee boxes, fairways, hospitality zones, media compounds and retail areas. The system is designed to replace traditional temporary fibre installations and provide immediate connectivity through a constellation of more than 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit.
The practical impact is operational as much as it is experiential. Live scoring systems, broadcast production workflows, point-of-sale infrastructure and fan-facing digital tools will all run on a single satellite-powered backbone, reducing setup complexity while expanding scalability at each event.
Chris Weber, Vice President of Amazon Leo Business & Product, framed the challenge bluntly: “The DP World Tour needs connectivity for everything—not just the broadcast teams, but the scoring systems, merchandise tents, concession stands—all of it… Leo helps to solve that problem. You show up, connect via satellite, and suddenly the entire tournament is connected and online.â€
For the DP World Tour, the partnership is as much about enhancing the fan experience as it is about infrastructure. Michael Cole, the tour’s Chief Technology Officer, said the goal is to build “truly connected and intelligent courses†where real-time data, AI tools and tracking systems can function seamlessly across entire venues.
Cole added: “Anyone who has ever been to a large sports or entertainment event will know the frustration of struggling at times to get connectivity. With Amazon Leo satellite technology coming to the Tour—a first in world sport—we are one step closer to realising our ambition.â€
The deal places the DP World Tour at the forefront of a growing shift in sport: treating connectivity not as a utility, but as core infrastructure.
