England-Mexico sets record audience for non-US World Cup game

The England vs. Mexico Round of 16 match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup became the most-watched non-USMNT World Cup match ever on English-language television in the United States.

The match averaged 21.74 million viewers on FOX, including pre-match coverage, and peaked at 25.72 million viewers. On Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo, the match attracted 23.2 million viewers during the match window, setting a new record for a World Cup broadcast on Spanish-language television.

According to official Nielsen figures, the combined FOX and Telemundo audience reached approximately 31.8 million viewers. Including 13 million streaming viewers measured by Adobe Analytics on Telemundo’s digital platforms, the total audience surpassed 40 million.

The England-Mexico match also outperformed all three USMNT group-stage matches on FOX, including games against Paraguay (18.04M), Turkey (17.02M) and Australia (16.22M).

Elsewhere, Argentina vs. Cape Verde drew 15.62 million viewers on FOX and 10.6 million on Telemundo and Peacock, while Portugal vs. Croatia averaged 11.11 million on FOX. Earlier on Sunday, Brazil vs. Norway attracted 13.8 million viewers across Telemundo and Peacock, marking the largest Spanish-language audience ever for a non-Mexico World Cup match.
