Italy is aiming to turn its co-hosting of Euro 2032 with Turkey into a major economic boost. According to an analysis by Banca Ifis, the tournament is expected to generate a total economic impact of €4.6 billion for the Italian economy.
This figure is broken down into €800 million in infrastructure investments, €1 billion in direct spending, and an additional €2.8 billion in deferred spending expected within 12 to 18 months after the tournament.
The report also estimates that around 1.1 million people will attend matches in stadiums, while the global digital audience could reach 4.6 billion viewers.
However, one of Italy’s key challenges is stadium infrastructure. The country has only four stadiums with a capacity exceeding 50,000, which is seen as a major limitation compared to countries like Germany.
According to Ifis Sport’s analysis, stadium renovations and new developments could attract an additional 5.3 million spectators to Italian football, generating around €1.3 billion in economic impact.
The study also highlights the growing financial scale of UEFA tournaments, noting that revenues from previous European Championships have continued to rise, reflecting the increasing commercial power of global football events.
