FC Bayern extends Jan-Christian Dreesen as CEO until 2029

FC Bayern Munich has opted for continuity at the top of the club, extending CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen’s contract for a further three seasons until 2029.

The Bundesliga champions announced the renewal following approval from the club’s supervisory board, which includes senior representatives from key Bayern stakeholders and partners including Adidas, Audi, Allianz and Deutsche Telekom.

The supervisory board has also extended the contract of Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, through 2029.

Dreesen took over as Bayern’s CEO in 2023 following a period of internal upheaval that resulted in the departures of former CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić.

He originally joined Bayern in 2013 from the banking sector as the club’s chief financial officer before subsequently becoming deputy CEO. His new contract underlines the club’s preference for stability as it seeks to maintain its position among Europe’s leading football organisations.

“Continuity provides direction and stability provides strength. We need both to continue developing FC Bayern consistently at the highest level,” said Herbert Hainer, chairman of the club’s supervisory board.

Hainer added that the executive leadership team, comprising Dreesen, Eberl and Rouven Kasper, is “excellently positioned” to continue developing Bayern both commercially and competitively while maintaining its leading position in Europe.

Dreesen said the club’s objective remained to ensure Bayern “continues to be the club we can all be proud of”, adding that there was still “a lot ahead” for the organisation.

The decision comes as Bayern continues to balance sporting ambitions with the commercial and financial demands facing Europe’s leading clubs. Maintaining experienced leadership at executive and sporting level gives the German champions continuity as they enter the next phase of their growth strategy.
