FIFA World Cup mobilized 300,000 personnel and drew 6.8 million stadium fans

The 2026 FIFA World Cup showcased the unprecedented scale of modern tournament operations, bringing together nearly 300,000 accredited personnel across 645 official venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while attracting more than 6.8 million spectators to stadiums.

The expanded tournament featured 1,248 players representing 48 national teams, competing in 104 matches over 39 days.

Massive Operational Effort

According to preliminary figures released by FIFA, the tournament required:

  • 43,000 volunteers
  • 73,700 accredited security personnel
  • 2,500 FIFA staff members
  • More than one million security shifts
  • Five million barcode scans processed through the accreditation system

The International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Dallas served as the hub for global media operations, where thousands of broadcast professionals worked using 5,000 cameras and produced more than 24,000 pieces of content for worldwide distribution.

Record Fan Consumption

The World Cup also generated impressive fan consumption figures across stadiums and fan zones.

Throughout the tournament, spectators purchased approximately:

  • 675,000 hot dogs
  • 4.6 million soft drinks and bottled waters
  • 5.5 million beers

Meanwhile, more than nine million visitors attended FIFA Fan Festival sites across the three host nations.

Digital Fan Services

FIFA’s “Know Before You Go” information program also played a significant role in fan engagement, distributing approximately 2,300 WhatsApp messages and 7.7 million emails to provide travel and event guidance throughout the competition.

FIFA noted that these figures are preliminary, with additional operational and attendance analysis expected to be published in the coming months.
