Formula E and Google Cloud have announced a significant multi-year expansion of their commercial relationship, officially elevating the tech giant to the status of the championships Primary Artificial Intelligence (AI) Partner. This deepened collaboration, which officially began in early 2025, aims to integrate advanced AI technologies across the entire Formula E ecosystem, from high-speed race strategy to global fan experiences.
Integrating Gemini into the Cockpit and Beyond
At the heart of this renewal is the integration of Gemini, Googles most capable AI model, into Formula Es technical and operational frameworks. The goal is to accelerate operational performance and drive technical innovation both on and off the track.
According to Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, the integration will open a “new dimension” for real-time performance optimization and strategic decision-making, setting a global benchmark for how technology is utilized in professional sports.
Enhancing the Fan Experience and Sustainability
The partnership introduces several practical applications designed to enrich the sport:
Live Strategy Agent: Formula E has implemented an “AI strategy agent” that analyzes race dynamics and driver performance in real-time to provide fans with deeper technical insights during live broadcasts.
Digital Twins for Sustainability: The category will utilize Google Workspace and Gemini to create “digital twins” of race structures and events. This allows for virtual planning and construction of facilities, significantly reducing the need for technical site visits and the transport of heavy equipment, directly lowering the championship’s carbon footprint.
Competitive Edge: Google Clouds President for EMEA, Tara Brady, emphasized that in a sport where milliseconds define success, their data analytics and AI provide a critical competitive advantage in high-pressure scenarios.
A Growing Strategic Relationship
Google Clouds involvement with Formula E has grown rapidly. Beyond its role as a technology and cloud security partner, the company also secured the naming rights for the So Paulo E-Prix for the 2025/2026 season, which served as the season opener in December.
