Google has announced new sponsorship agreements with the Morocco national football team and the Iraq national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The partnerships center around Google Gemini, which will serve as the official technology sponsor of both national teams during the tournament. The agreements were signed with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and the Iraqi Football Association and will focus heavily on fan engagement and AI-powered digital experiences.
As part of the collaboration, supporters will be able to use Gemini’s AI tools to create customized content ahead of and during the World Cup. Fans can generate personalized cheering visuals through Gemini’s text-to-image model “Nano Banana” and create team anthems using its text-to-music model “Lyria”.
Google also plans to offer AI-driven football insights through Gemini, allowing users to analyze match performances, understand tactical elements and generate game predictions.
The move forms part of Google’s broader expansion strategy across the Middle East and North Africa region, where the company recently launched its “Personal Intelligence” services.
Iraq national football team secured qualification for its first World Cup in nearly 40 years after defeating Bolivia 2-1 last month, marking the country’s first appearance since the 1986 tournament in Mexico.
Meanwhile, Morocco national football team became the first African nation to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after defeating Niger 5-0 in September 2025. Morocco also made history at the 2022 World Cup by becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals.
The agreements further expand Google’s growing sports sponsorship portfolio. The company has already integrated Gemini branding with the Argentina national football team and recently signed commercial partnerships linked to the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League.
