The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a global partnership with Google ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. This collaboration focuses on integrating Google’s Gemini AI platform and Pixel smartphones to transform the fan experience.
Official Roles: Google Gemini becomes the “Official AI Fan Companion,” while Google Pixel is designated the “Official Smartphone” of the tournament.
Interactive Tools: The Gemini app will feature an ‘Explore Cricket’ tab, offering quizzes, challenges, and educational content.
Data Insights: Gemini will generate real-time statistical insights during the matches.
Content Creation: Pixel’s advanced camera technology will be utilized to capture exclusive content for the ICC’s digital channels.
Context and Strategy
This deal expands Google’s existing relationship with the ICC, building on its previous support for women’s competitions. With the Men’s World Cup being held in India—where a recent study showed that 64% of consumers already use generative AI tools—Google is leveraging cricket’s massive reach to deepen engagement with its Gemini product.
“Google’s leadership in search and AI aligns with the ICC’s ambition to serve fans better,” said Sanjog Gupta, ICC Chief Executive. The partnership aims to deliver “phygital” experiences that make cricket more accessible and meaningful for a global audience.
