Japan’s J.League has partnered with sports marketing agency IMG to strengthen its global sponsorship strategy, boost commercial sales and accelerate the league’s international growth.
Under the agreement, IMG will advise the J.League on its renewed global brand structure, develop new sponsorship categories and secure international commercial partnerships as the league looks to expand its presence beyond Asia.
The J.League has spent more than a decade building its profile across Asia and is now targeting further commercial momentum on the global stage, with sponsorship expansion and international audience development at the heart of its strategy.
IMG will also work with the league to identify new brand opportunities and connect J.League with potential global partners.
J.League chairman Yoshikazu Nonomura said the partnership with IMG represented an important milestone in expanding the league’s global footprint, adding that the combination of IMG’s expertise and the J.League’s platform would create new opportunities for both the competition and its commercial partners.
Adolfo Bara, IMG’s SVP and managing director of football, said J.League possesses many of the qualities that make football an attractive global platform, including authenticity, community, long-term vision and excellence.
He added that Japanese football, its players, clubs and wider ecosystem are continuing to gain international recognition, while suggesting that J.League has the potential to become one of the leading football leagues in the world.
The partnership underlines J.League’s ambition to move beyond its established Asian footprint and build a stronger position in the global sports sponsorship market.
