Free-to-Air Strategy Drives Significant Audience Growth for La Liga F

The strategic decision to broadcast four matches per round on free-to-air television has yielded immediate results for La Liga F. Since the implementation of the new agreement with national broadcaster RTVE and Catalan network 3CAT/TV3 in late January, the Spanish women’s top-flight competition has reported a marked increase in visibility and viewership.

Record-Breaking Reach The impact of this broadcast model was highlighted by the recent match between Granada CF and FC Barcelona. The game drew an average of 289,000 viewers on free-to-air channels. When accounting for combined coverage across free-to-air, DAZN, and Movistar, the total number of unique users reached 1.01 million. Furthermore, the match enjoyed strong on-site support, with 5,100 fans filling the stands at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

Sustainable Expansion La Liga F emphasized that this shift is part of a broader roadmap aimed at increasing social impact, attracting new audiences, and establishing a sustainable professional model. “This new audiovisual landscape not only expands the exposure for clubs and players but reinforces the consolidation of the competition,” the league stated.

The league’s growth is also attracting significant external investment. Notably, the investment group Mercury13 recently confirmed a deal to acquire a majority stake in FC Badalona Women, marking the first multi-club ownership platform focused on women’s football to enter the Spanish market.

Strong Financial Momentum These gains come on the heels of a highly successful 2024-2025 financial year. Despite distributing 17 million euros among its clubs to bolster structural development, the competition managed to quintuple its profits, reaching 156,782 euros compared to just over 30,000 euros two years prior. This financial stability, combined with the new broadcast reach, positions La Liga F for continued growth in the competitive landscape of European women’s sports.
