Saudi-backed LIV Golf is the latest sports property to tap into the fast-rising prediction market space, announcing a short-term partnership with Novig tied directly to The Masters Tournament.
The activation runs through Masters week, marking a targeted play to capitalize on one of golf’s most prestigious global stages.
Sleeve Sponsorship Meets Betting Innovation
As part of the deal, seven LIV players will wear Novig branding on their sleeves, including:
- Dustin Johnson
- Sergio GarcÃa
- Jon Rahm
- Cameron Smith
The agreement also extends into LIV’s digital ecosystem, with integrated social content and custom prediction markets tailored to the tournament — from hole-in-one probabilities to how many LIV players make the cut.
A Different Kind of “Betâ€
Novig operates a peer-to-peer model, offering users the ability to trade on outcomes rather than place traditional sportsbook wagers. For the Masters activation, the platform is rolling out:
- A 500,000 “Novig Cash†prize pool
- Daily predictions on the tournament winner
- A symbolic “blue blazer†prize, echoing the Masters’ iconic green jacket
Unlike regulated sportsbooks, Novig currently uses virtual currency systems, though the company has applied to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to launch a fully regulated exchange using real money.
Bryson Sits Out — and Signals Competition
Notably absent from the deal is Bryson DeChambeau, one of the favorites for the Masters title. He previously signed a major endorsement agreement with Kalshi, highlighting growing competition within the category.
PGA Tour Holds Its Ground
While LIV leans in, the PGA Tour remains cautious.
Executives have cited integrity concerns and regulatory uncertainty, opting to observe rather than engage commercially — at least for now.
Industry Momentum Is Building
Prediction markets are quickly gaining traction across sports:
- The National Hockey League has deals with Kalshi and Polymarket
- Major League Baseball reportedly signed a deal worth up to $300M
- Ultimate Fighting Championship, Major League Soccer, and La Liga have also partnered with Polymarket
Meanwhile, the National Football League and National Basketball Association are still evaluating the space.
The Big Picture
LIV Golf’s move is less about short-term revenue and more about positioning itself at the intersection of sports, fintech, and fan engagement.
Prediction markets blur the line between betting, trading, and content — and for emerging leagues like LIV, that edge can be a differentiator.
