The LIV Golf has postponed its scheduled June event in New Orleans, casting further doubt over the circuit’s short-term future despite recent assurances from leadership.
The tournament, originally set for June 25, was expected to take place at Bayou Oaks in City Park. However, the decision was made following discussions between league executives and Louisiana state officials, as LIV Golf reassesses its business model.
The move comes less than two weeks after CEO Scott O’Neil stated that the season would continue “uninterrupted and at full throttle.†Behind the scenes, however, uncertainty has grown over the league’s financial backing, particularly its reliance on the Public Investment Fund.
Louisiana had committed approximately $7 million in public funding to host the event, including $2 million for course upgrades and $5 million in hosting fees. To date, just over $3 million has been spent. Under revised terms, LIV Golf is expected to return $1.2 million already received, while the $2 million invested in course improvements will remain as a long-term asset for the venue.
Both sides are now exploring the possibility of staging a reworked event later in the year, potentially in the fall. However, LIV Golf currently has no confirmed schedule beyond its team championship in August.
The league is actively seeking new investment sources as it prepares for the potential end of PIF funding. Plans under consideration include selling equity stakes in its 13 teams and forming new partnerships, including possible collaborations with established national open tournaments.
For now, LIV Golf’s next confirmed event remains in Virginia, set to begin May 7, as questions continue to surround the league’s financial stability and long-term direction.
