The Italian government has officially confirmed the appointment of Massimo Sessa as Extraordinary Commissioner for stadium infrastructure ahead of UEFA Euro 2032.
The decree, announced by Sports Minister Andrea Abodi, has been formally registered by the Court of Auditors, making Sessa’s role fully effective. His mandate is to oversee and accelerate the development of key infrastructure projects required for the tournament.
Sessa will coordinate and support all activities related to the stadiums selected to host the competition in Italy. His role includes simplifying administrative procedures and ensuring that projects led by private stakeholders progress efficiently and meet UEFA deadlines.
According to the official statement, Sessa is already operational and working on intervention plans to guarantee that five stadiums—identified during Italy’s bid in collaboration with Italian Football Federation—will comply with UEFA requirements in time for the tournament.
The government has also approved the structure of the commissioner’s technical office, strengthening the operational framework behind the project. Prior to this appointment, Sessa had already been actively involved in infrastructure dossiers as President of the Superior Council of Public Works.
Who is Massimo Sessa?
Originally from Salerno and based in Rome, Massimo Sessa holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome and a PhD in Hydraulic, Sanitary and Environmental Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan.
His career spans several high-level public sector roles, particularly within Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. As President of the Superior Council of Public Works, he has overseen technical and regulatory aspects of major national infrastructure projects.
Sessa has also held key positions including:
- President of the Special Committee for Strategic Works
- Extraordinary Commissioner for the Peschiera aqueduct security project
- Coordinator of commissions revising Italy’s building regulations
With extensive expertise in hydraulic, structural, and environmental engineering, Sessa has contributed to numerous national and international technical initiatives, as well as scientific publications focused on infrastructure safety and regulatory frameworks.
