European basketball’s most powerful stakeholders met again this week, but once more left without a breakthrough.
Representatives from the NBA, EuroLeague Basketball and FIBA gathered at FIBA headquarters in Mies, Switzerland, to continue discussions around the long-term structure and commercial future of the sport in Europe. The meeting was described by all sides as constructive, but no concrete decisions or formal frameworks emerged.
Instead, the three organisations agreed on one immediate outcome: keep talking.
“Representatives of Euroleague Basketball, FIBA and NBA met today at the FIBA Headquarters in Mies, Switzerland, where constructive discussions were held on the future of European basketball and on potential opportunities for collaboration,†read a joint statement.
“All three parties agreed on continuing the conversation in the upcoming weeks.â€
Behind the carefully worded language sits a familiar tension. European basketball has long been split between competing visions — the NBA’s expansion ambitions, FIBA’s governance role, and the EuroLeague’s club-driven commercial model. Each meeting adds to a growing sense that change is being explored, but not yet defined.
For now, the only certainty is that dialogue continues. What form European basketball takes next remains an open question, with all three parties still circling the same negotiating table.
