Nike’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, “Rip the Script”, has delivered record-breaking digital engagement while significantly boosting product sales during the tournament.
According to figures released by the company, the six-minute flagship film was broken down into multiple stories, athlete-focused clips and short-form social media content designed to maximize reach across digital platforms.
Through this strategy, the campaign generated a combined 1.5 billion views across various channels. Nike said “Rip the Script” became the most shared piece of content in the company’s history on social media. It also became the most watched post ever on Nike’s Instagram account and the most viewed video on the brand’s YouTube channel.
One of the campaign’s standout pieces, “GOATs Recovery”, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James, became the most liked post in Nike’s Instagram history.
Beyond its digital success, Nike also celebrated strong commercial results at the start of the World Cup. The company activated more than 5,000 retail locations worldwide as part of one of its largest football retail initiatives to date.
Sales of apparel linked to the 12 national teams sponsored by Nike and competing at the World Cup are currently running 2.5 times higher than during the equivalent period ahead of the 2022 tournament. Meanwhile, the Nike Mercurial recorded the strongest first-24-hour sales performance of any football boot in the history of Nike’s direct-to-consumer channels.
Nike’s World Cup strategy once again highlights how content creation and digital storytelling are becoming increasingly important assets in modern sports marketing, extending far beyond traditional sponsorship rights.
