PSV and Efteling unveil special edition shirt with NFC chip in club crest

PSV Eindhoven and Dutch theme park Efteling have unveiled a special edition football shirt that blends club heritage, regional storytelling and interactive technology.

The jersey forms part of a broader collaboration between the Eredivisie club and one of the Netherlands’ most recognised entertainment brands. Rather than serving as a typical kit launch, the project is designed to connect football culture with Eindhoven’s creative and technological heritage.

The shirt will be worn by PSV players and will also be released as a limited merchandise item for supporters.

Interactive shirt featuring NFC technology

One of the standout features of the jersey is an NFC chip embedded inside the PSV club crest.

Supporters can scan the badge using a smartphone, which connects them to a dedicated digital landing page featuring exclusive content, promotional offers and upcoming fan activations related to the collaboration between PSV and Efteling.

The integration reflects a growing trend in sports merchandising, where clubs embed digital technology in apparel to extend fan engagement beyond traditional retail purchases.

Design inspired by stars and club history

The shirt’s visual identity incorporates subtle star motifs across the fabric, linking the design to both Efteling’s storytelling themes and PSV’s sporting achievements.

A key detail is the presence of 26 golden stars, representing PSV’s Eredivisie titles and connecting the design directly to the club’s historical success.

From a distance, the shirt appears relatively minimalistic, but additional details become visible at closer range, using texture and lighting effects to create a more dynamic design.

Tribute to Eindhoven’s innovation heritage

The concept also references Peter Reijnders, a Dutch designer and engineer known for his early technical innovations behind Efteling’s famous Fairy Tale Forest.

Reijnders previously collaborated with engineers connected to Philips, the company historically associated with Eindhoven and PSV’s founding identity.

Illustrations inspired by Reijnders’ work have been incorporated into the shirt’s numbering design, celebrating the intersection of technology, creativity and regional heritage that shaped both the city of Eindhoven and the Efteling theme park.
