The United Soccer League’s Sacramento Republic FC has appointed Moorefield Construction as the general contractor for its new downtown stadium project, known as Republic Stadium at The Railyards.
Under the agreement, Moorefield Construction will oversee day-to-day construction operations, manage subcontractors, and coordinate the project’s workforce. The company brings experience from previous regional sports and entertainment developments, including renovation work for Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics, where it contributed to clubhouse upgrades, stadium improvements, and broadcast facilities during the team’s temporary relocation to Sacramento.
The stadium project has been expanded beyond its original phased development plan and will now be built as a soccer-specific venue with a capacity exceeding 20,000 seats. The club said the decision reflects alignment between its ownership group, the Wilton Rancheria tribe, and the wider Sacramento community.
The broader project team includes Pegasus Development as the owner’s representative, while design responsibilities are led by Manica Architecture and House & Robertson Architects. Lund Construction will handle surrounding public infrastructure.
Construction on the stadium began in August, and the venue is scheduled to open in 2028. In addition to the main stadium build, the development will include a stadium preview center later this year, allowing fans who have placed deposits to experience selected amenities and premium areas ahead of completion.
Club and project officials emphasized the scale and ambition of the development. Moorefield Construction executives highlighted the project as a major milestone in the company’s history, while Pegasus Development noted that the stadium will serve as a civic landmark for Sacramento, combining sports, entertainment, and community use.
The stadium replaces earlier plans for a smaller, expandable venue, signaling a shift toward a more permanent, larger-capacity facility designed to support long-term growth. Currently, Sacramento Republic FC plays its home matches at Heart Health Park, which has a capacity of just over 11,500.
