The Spanish government has officially supported the candidacies of Bilbao and Barcelona to host future UEFA Champions League finals.
According to the Council of Ministers, Bilbao is bidding to host the 2028 UEFA Women’s Champions League final, while Barcelona is aiming to stage the 2029 UEFA Champions League men’s final.
The government emphasized its commitment to hosting major international sporting events, highlighting their sporting, economic, tourism, and social impact. Officials stated that securing these finals would demonstrate Spain’s ability to organize top-level global competitions.
Education, Vocational Training and Sports Minister Milagros Tolón said the government fully supports UEFA awarding these finals to Spain, adding that it would be a strong validation of the country’s organizational capacity for major sporting events.
