Telemundo has secured Spanish-language rights to Italy’s Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in a three-year agreement covering the US market through the 2028/29 season.
The deal gives Telemundo comprehensive Spanish-language coverage of Italian football across its Telemundo and Universo linear networks, Peacock’s streaming platform and Telemundo Deportes Ahora, its sports-focused free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel.
Coverage will also be supported by shoulder programming and additional content throughout the season.
The agreement strengthens Telemundo’s position in the US soccer broadcasting market and adds Serie A to an increasingly extensive portfolio of European football rights.
English-language rights to Serie A in the US are held by CBS Sports, which has carried the competition since 2021. Telemundo’s Spanish-language coverage will provide another platform for the league to reach the country’s large Hispanic audience.
Several prominent US national team players currently compete in Serie A, including Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah at AC Milan, Weston McKennie at Juventus, Gianluca Busio at Venezia and Benja Cremaschi at Parma.
Mexican international Johan Vásquez, who plays for Genoa, is currently the only Mexican player in Serie A. His profile is already being used in Telemundo’s promotional material for the competition.
Telemundo builds major European soccer portfolio
The Serie A deal represents the latest expansion of Telemundo’s soccer rights portfolio.
The broadcaster already holds Spanish-language rights to the English Premier League and Germany’s Bundesliga, meaning Serie A gives Telemundo coverage of three of Europe’s so-called ‘big five’ domestic leagues.
The broadcaster has also secured the US Spanish-language rights to UEFA’s major international club competitions from the 2027/28 season through 2029/30. The agreement includes the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and Youth League, as well as the UEFA Super Cup.
Telemundo’s broader soccer portfolio also includes the US men’s and women’s national teams, soccer from the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and selected Liga MX clubs, including CD Guadalajara, FC Juárez and Tigres UANL.
The expansion underlines NBCUniversal-owned Telemundo’s strategy of using a broad mix of premium domestic and international football properties to deepen its connection with Spanish-speaking audiences in the US.
