German football stars Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and Yann Sommer are set to acquire 90% of the SAD of Estrela Amadora, the Portuguese top-flight club, as part of a €40 million takeover.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the agreement has already been signed and is expected to be officially announced in the coming days. Johannes Mosmang is expected to become the new president of the SAD, while Francisco Lopo will remain as CEO.
The €40 million deal represents a significant increase in Estrela Amadora’s valuation compared with its previous ownership transaction.
The club was acquired by businessman Paulo Lopo in 2020 for just €72,000. If the latest deal is completed at €40 million, the purchase price will be approximately 555 times higher than six years ago.
Müller, 36, spent more than 15 years at Bayern Munich before moving to MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps. He was part of Germany’s 2014 FIFA World Cup-winning squad alongside Hummels.
Hummels, who also won the 2014 World Cup, enjoyed prominent spells with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, as well as a stint at Roma. He retired from professional football in 2025.
Sommer, meanwhile, remains active with Belgian club Club Brugge. The Swiss goalkeeper has previously played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, and represented Switzerland at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.
The investment marks a new move into club ownership for three high-profile former and current players, adding Estrela Amadora to the growing number of European clubs attracting investment from former footballers.
