Samuel Umtiti Takes on a New Role as Pizzaiolo in Lyon Campaign

Former Olympique Lyonnais defender Samuel Umtiti surprised fans by stepping away from football and into a very different role—working as a pizzaiolo in a pizzeria in central Lyon.

The unexpected activation took place as part of the “Real Club Legends” campaign, an initiative by Enterprise in partnership with the UEFA Europa League. The campaign aims to create unforgettable experiences for fans by swapping their daily lives with moments alongside football legends.

A Unique Fan Experience

The concept behind the campaign is simple yet powerful: while a fan is treated to a matchday experience in the stadium, a football icon temporarily takes their place in their everyday job.

In this case, Lyon supporter Franco Morreale attended his team’s 4–2 victory over PAOK, while Umtiti worked behind the scenes at Casa Morreale, serving customers, preparing pizzas, and engaging with fans.

The moment blended football, culture, and community—bringing a personal and human touch to the sport.

Celebrating the Bond Between Fans and Clubs

Umtiti, who officially retired from professional football in September 2025, fully embraced the experience, interacting with customers, taking selfies, and creating a warm, lively atmosphere.

The campaign highlights the emotional connection between fans and their clubs. According to research cited in the campaign, a majority of fans value atmosphere and connection with their club as much as, or even more than, match results.

A Broader Message in Modern Football

This activation comes at a time when football clubs and brands are increasingly focusing on fan engagement beyond the pitch. By placing a football legend in a fan’s everyday environment, the campaign reinforces the idea that supporters are at the heart of the sport.

With initiatives like this, Enterprise and its partners continue to reshape how brands interact with football culture—turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories.
