West Bromwich Albion are facing a potential points deduction after being charged with an alleged breach of the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability (P&S) regulations covering the three-year period ending in the 2024–25 season.
The club’s accounts show combined losses of around £64 million across the cycle, though some costs may be excluded under EFL rules for infrastructure and academy spending, meaning the final breach could be marginal.
Under EFL regulations, Championship clubs are allowed losses up to £41.5 million over the assessment period, with sporting penalties typically applied in the following season if a breach is confirmed.
The EFL’s standard punishment starts at a 12-point deduction but can be reduced depending on the scale of the overspend and other mitigating factors. Additional penalties may also be applied in cases of aggravating circumstances.
West Brom said they believe they have complied with the rules and will continue to cooperate with the league’s financial review process.
The club currently sit in a tight Championship relegation battle, with any potential sanction potentially having a major impact on their final standings.
