While most football clubs are chasing the next superstar, VfL Wolfsburg is chasing the future of organizational efficiency. As the first European club to sign a direct collaboration with OpenAI, the Bundesliga side has integrated ChatGPT Enterprise into its core daily operations, proving that high-tech innovation and human-centric values can coexist.
Efficiency Beyond the Pitch
The project, which scaled significantly in early 2026, utilizes over 100 customized GPTs across every department. Rather than replacing staff, these tools act as “digital assistants” to handle repetitive tasks:
- Administration & Marketing: Automating newsletter creation, routine reporting, and electronic invoicing.
- Fan Engagement: AI-powered systems manage thousands of fan emails, ensuring personalized and rapid responses.
- Youth Academy: Coaches use specialized GPTs to tailor communication strategies for Gen Z and Gen Alpha players, bridging the generational gap in training.
- Smart Infrastructure: AI even assists in monitoring the health of the Allianz Arena-style turf and managing logistical workflows.
The “Wolfsburg Model”: AI with a Heart
Managing Director Michael Meeske emphasized that the goal is to free up human talent for more creative and strategic endeavors. By automating the “boring” work, over 350 employees can focus on tasks that require emotional intelligence and high-level strategy—areas where AI still takes a backseat.
