Women’s football sees sharp rise in M&A activity

Mergers and acquisitions activity in women’s football has accelerated significantly in recent years, highlighting growing investor interest in the global women’s game.

According to newly released industry data, the number of transactions increased from just two deals in 2022 to nine in 2025, marking the highest level recorded in the period covered.

The United States and England continued to dominate activity, with clubs from the National Women’s Soccer League and the Women’s Super League accounting for a large share of completed transactions.

Notable investments and acquisitions over the past two years involved clubs including Chelsea Women, Aston Villa Women, Boston Legacy FC and San Diego Wave FC.

The data also shows expanding activity beyond traditional markets, with transactions involving clubs from France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal and North Macedonia.

While 2026 figures remain partial, four deals have already been recorded, suggesting investor appetite in women’s football remains strong amid rising commercial revenues, media rights growth and increasing global visibility of the sport.
