Google enters the wearable health race with Curry

Google is stepping up its competition in the digital health and wearable space, aiming to rival companies like Whoop. The tech giant has partnered with four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry, star of the Golden State Warriors, to accelerate the development of its new platform, Google Health Coach.

Curry is working as a performance advisor alongside Google’s health experts, product engineers, and AI teams. His insights are being used to shape an AI-powered wellness assistant built on Gemini, designed to function as a personal coach for fitness, sleep, and overall health.

The system allows users to share goals, training routines, available equipment, injuries, and lifestyle data. In return, the assistant adapts personalized recommendations to optimize performance and recovery.

The launch of Google Health Coach comes as Google expands its global push into health technologies. In parallel, Curry has also contributed to the co-design of the Fitbit Air Special Edition, a new wearable developed under the Fitbit ecosystem for tracking activity and sleep.
