Google has unveiled a range of new AI-powered features for Search and Gemini ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while also announcing that several capabilities currently reserved for AI Mode Pro subscribers will be made available to all users free of charge this summer.
As the tournament kicks off on June 11, Google is enhancing its live sports experience with updates designed to help fans follow matches more easily. The company has refreshed its live sports standings page, introducing a FIFA-themed navigation bar that highlights ongoing matches, upcoming fixtures, kickoff times, and broadcasting platforms.
Real-time animations for goals, red cards, and match victories will also be integrated into the match-tracking experience, providing users with more dynamic updates as games unfold.
One of the most significant additions comes through AI Mode. Fans will be able to ask tactical football questions and receive interactive visual explanations generated by AI. Complex concepts such as pressing systems, defensive structures, attacking movements, and player positioning can be illustrated through dynamic graphics designed to make the game easier to understand.
These visual AI capabilities are currently available to AI Mode Pro and Ultra subscribers using Gemini 3 Pro models. However, Google has confirmed that the features will be opened to all users free of charge during the summer.
The company has also upgraded the Gemini app to provide more comprehensive World Cup coverage. Gemini will now incorporate live scores, standings, and breaking news into its responses, while generating visual elements such as statistics, images, and videos to create a richer and more engaging matchday experience.
In addition, Google is launching new World Cup-themed AI templates that allow users to transform themselves into players on their favorite national teams through AI-generated images.
With these updates, Google is positioning Search and Gemini as key companions for football fans throughout the tournament, combining real-time information, interactive visuals, and generative AI tools to enhance how supporters follow the world’s biggest football event.
