adidas has introduced a new performance innovation called the CLIMACOOL SYSTEM to help players cope with extreme heat during the 2026 World Cup.
The system consists of three components: a cooling vest, an insulating jacket, and protective shoe covers designed to reduce heat stress during training, halftime, and recovery.
Originally developed for Formula 1 drivers, the technology has been adapted for football with input from players at Manchester United, Juventus, and Arsenal.
The cooling vest contains a frozen gel that slowly melts to reduce body temperature, while the insulating jacket traps cold air and extends the cooling effect.
Together, the system can reduce core body temperature by around 0.5°C and skin temperature by up to 13°C, while the shoe covers can lower foot temperature by about 2°C.
adidas says the system is designed to improve comfort, recovery, and performance in increasingly hot playing conditions at major tournaments.
