Apple has announced that Apple TV will broadcast a landmark live sports event this weekend, featuring the first major professional sporting event captured entirely on an iPhone.
The match between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC will take place on Saturday, May 23 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, and will stream live on Apple’s Apple TV platform.
According to Apple, the entire broadcast will be captured using the iPhone 17 Pro, marking a first in professional sports production at this scale. The setup will include multiple iPhone units positioned around the stadium to capture live match footage, warmups, player introductions, in-goal camera angles, and crowd atmosphere.
Apple says the goal is to combine broadcast-quality production with new, more immersive perspectives enabled by the iPhone’s compact camera system and professional video capabilities. The device features a multi-camera system designed to deliver high-end cinematic footage suitable for live broadcast workflows.
The initiative builds on earlier experiments, including Apple’s integration of iPhone cameras into selected moments of its “Friday Night Baseball” broadcasts and the Major League Soccer coverage on Apple TV throughout recent seasons.
Apple noted that strong audience response to those experiments led to expanded use of iPhone-based production tools across both baseball and MLS broadcasts, including major events such as the MLS Cup.
This weekend’s broadcast is also scheduled just ahead of the pause in the MLS season ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 preparations in North America.
The match will stream globally in over 100 countries and regions, with no regional blackouts for Apple TV subscribers. New users will be eligible for a one-week free trial.
