FIFA has partnered with the Avalanche network and Modex to launch a secure ticketing model designed to eliminate long-standing issues like automated buying bots, counterfeit listings, and skyrocketing secondary-market prices.
Through its digital platform, FIFA Collect, the football federation aims to shift ticket resale activity away from third-party giants like StubHub and SeatGeek, bringing the ecosystem back under its own direct control.
The Two-Step Security Layer: RTB and RTT
Instead of distributing match tickets directly on-chain, the system introduces a highly strategic dual-token mechanism:
- Right-to-Buy (RTB): Fans can acquire these digital entitlements, which grant priority access to purchase specific tickets before the public release. These rights can be securely traded on FIFA’s internal secondary marketplace.
- Right-to-Ticket (RTT): Once redeemed, the RTB converts into an RTT, allowing the fan to safely finalize their purchase and receive an official match ticket through FIFA’s traditional ticketing infrastructure.
Over $25 Million in Trading Volume
According to data shared by Ava Labs, the main developer firm behind Avalanche, the experiment is already showing massive scale. More than 100,000 RTBs have been issued to date, and the combined trading volume for these digital rights has surpassed $25 million.
