LaLiga positions itself as a ‘Tech Powerhouse’ to drive growth through technology and data

LaLiga

LaLiga has outlined its ambition to become a global sports technology leader, describing itself as a “Tech Powerhouse” in a new report that details its transformation from a football competition into a technology-driven organization.

In the report, titled “Trends, Innovation and Technological Transformation from LaLiga’s Perspective,” the Spanish league says it has evolved from an association of clubs burdened by debt, fragmented media rights and limited technological capabilities into an organization that develops, exports and commercializes technology for the global sports industry.

Sportian at the center of the strategy

A key pillar of LaLiga’s transformation is Sportian, its joint venture with technology company Globant.

Sportian provides solutions in anti-piracy, competition management, data visualization and fan engagement platforms. Its client portfolio includes Serie A, Saudi Pro League, MotoGP, Belgian Pro League, Major League Rugby and Wimbledon, highlighting LaLiga’s ambition to export its technology beyond football.

The league says its strategy has shifted it from being a consumer of technology to becoming an architect and exporter of proprietary solutions for the wider sports ecosystem.

AI embedded across the organization

Artificial intelligence has become a core component of LaLiga’s operations. According to the report, the organization has established a dedicated AI department and trained 100% of its workforce in AI applications.

LaLiga estimates that these initiatives have reduced reactive administrative tasks by up to four hours per employee each week, allowing staff to focus on more creative and strategic work.

More than 275 million social media followers

The report also highlights LaLiga’s digital reach, noting that it now manages a global community of more than 275 million social media followers while continuing to develop proprietary technology and data-driven fan engagement solutions.

Five strategic priorities for the next decade

Looking ahead, LaLiga has identified five strategic pillars that will shape its future development:

  • Democratization of data
  • Agentic transformation and operational efficiency through AI
  • Hyper-personalization and the “Fandom Flywheel”
  • Technological sovereignty and protection of digital assets
  • Human-centric and ethical innovation

LaLiga also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening anti-piracy efforts, investing in smart stadium infrastructure and creating digital experiences that connect with fans regardless of their physical location.

The league argues that the future of sport belongs to organizations capable of operating not only as competition organizers but also as technology companies that develop, own and export innovative digital solutions worldwide.
