NFL Draft first-round viewership slips 3% despite faster format

The first round of the NFL Draft 2026 drew an average audience of 13.2 million viewers, marking a 3% decline compared to 2025, according to data released by ESPN.

The broadcast was carried across multiple platforms, including ESPN, ABC, NFL Network, the ESPN app, and YouTube. Despite the drop, this year’s figure still ranks as the third-highest first-round audience on record, trailing only 2020 and 2025.

The 2020 edition remains the all-time peak with 15.5 million viewers, driven in part by the lack of live sports during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s draft introduced a faster-paced format, reducing the time between first-round picks from 10 minutes to 8. The change shortened the broadcast by more than 30 minutes and created a more streamlined viewing experience.

The slight decline mirrors a broader trend seen earlier this year with Super Bowl LX, which posted a strong audience but fell just short of the previous year’s الرقم.

Full viewership figures for the three-day event are expected later this week. Despite the dip, the NFL Draft continues to rank among the most-watched sports broadcasts of the offseason period between the Super Bowl and the start of the regular season.

Attendance in Pittsburgh reached a record 805,000 fans across all three days, underlining the event’s continued popularity beyond television audiences. Organizers for the 2027 draft in Washington, D.C., are already targeting a crowd of one million.
