Verizon boosts fan engagement for World Cup with 5G and QR campaigns

Verizon is expanding its activation strategy for the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a mix of infrastructure investment and fan-focused marketing initiatives.

As an official partner of the tournament, Verizon is deploying its 5G and fiber networks across host stadiums, alongside temporary mobile cells to support heavy data demand. Officials expect usage to exceed 50 terabytes of data per match, driven by broadcasting, fan connectivity, and digital services inside venues.

Fan experience at the center

Beyond infrastructure, Verizon is also launching direct consumer activations. Through its Visible brand, the company is introducing eSIM travel passes aimed at international fans, ranging from short- to longer-duration packages priced between $15 and $45.

The telecom group is also rolling out QR-code-based fan engagement campaigns via street marketing in host cities. Fans scanning codes on promotional materials will be able to win tickets and other rewards.

Retail and on-ground activations

Verizon’s Total Wireless division will support in-person activations at retail locations, featuring fan events, merchandise, and interactive experiences designed to connect matchday excitement with brand engagement.

The company is also working with local small businesses in host markets to help them manage increased visitor traffic through digital tools and connectivity solutions.

Infrastructure and long-term impact

In addition to event-specific marketing, Verizon says its investment in network expansion will leave a long-term technological legacy in host regions. The company is also contributing to public safety communications through its Verizon Frontline service, which supports emergency response systems during major events.

Overall, the strategy positions Verizon not just as a connectivity provider for the tournament, but as a central player in shaping how fans experience the World Cup digitally and physically.
